Full Description

This historic Parquetry woodworking course will cover the topic of replicating the simple hexagonal parquetry pattern so prevalent in the 17th and 18th century golden age of veneerwork. Beginning with solid lumber the students will bandsaw the necessary veneer stock, then make their own sawing and handplaning jigs to cut and true the parallelogram lozenges to assemble the pattern. The completed pattern will then be glued to a solid substrate, trimmed, and a banded inlay perimeter will be added, the entire construct will be dressed with a toothing plane and scraper or smoothing plane as necessary. If time allows we will be applying a classic beeswax finish to the panels.

Students should come away with a solid skillset and understanding of historic parquetry techniques.
